Dimitar BerbatovBoth Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United have denied that the Old Trafford club have bid for striker Dimitar Berbatov.

United executive David Gill said: “We have categorically not made a bid for Dimitar Berbatov.”

Spurs reportedly added: “We have not received an offer and would not accept one if we did - it is as simple as that.”

The Bulgarian’s agent said United had ‘enquired’ while the quotes said ‘bid’. Regardless, Spurs manager Martin Jol is intent on keeping the 26-year-old.

He said: “Berbatov loves me. If he is playing well he gets all the praise and if he is not doing well I have to tell him.

“I had one approach and I said ‘I’d rather die than sell him’.”

On Sunday we take on Manchester United at Old Trafford. Of course, we never win there, so we have no chance, right? Well, until that final whistle goes, I always think we’re in with a chance!

Team news is that Gareth Bale and Teemu Tainio are back, however, Darren Bent looks likely to miss out. Dimitar Berbatov might play at United too - in a Spurs shirt!

For United, they’re missing key duo Wayne Rooney and Cristiano Ronaldo.

Defoe on the attackSpurs manager Martin Jol has revealed that Jermain Defoe could be sold. The England striker has just under two years remaining on his contract at White Hart Lane.

Jol told The Sun: “I had an argument with him because everyone else is committed and he does not want to extend his contract.

“I want to keep him but the chairman does not want another Sol Campbell on his hands.

“Jermain tells everybody he loves the club and we love him.

“We’ve made him a good offer but he won’t even discuss it.”
