Ramos set for Spurs?

Juande RamosLast night was quite an odd one with how Jol’s sacking unfolded during the 2-1 defeat by Getafe. It’s typical of Tottenham Hotspur that things are always done in a dramatic fashion.

I’m glad but sad that Martin Jol has gone. He did a great job in the first two seasons finishing in fifth position twice, but this season the wheels came off and we’re now third from bottom in the Premiership, so the change had to be made.

Jol’s assistant Chris Hughton has been sacked too, which is disappointing considering the length of time he’d been with the club as a player and coach. But I wish him, and Martin too, well for the future.

Now, all the talk is that Sevilla manager Juande Ramos will be Jol’s successor. If reports and rumours are to be believed, his appointment is imminent.

Ramos is 53-years-old and has managed Alcoyano, Levante, Barcelona B, Lleida, Rayo Vallecano, Real Betis, Espanyol and Malaga.

The Pedro Muñoz-born manager has won the UEFA Cup twice, he’s also won the UEFA Super Cup, Copa del Rey and the Spanish Super Cup.

Apparently the Spaniard has been learning English but isn’t fluent just yet, hence where the appointment of Gustavo Poyet as assistant comes in.

You can learn more about Ramos via his website at juanderamos.com.

Whether Ramos is the right man to become Spurs manager, only time will tell, but whoever is appointed, I will give my full support to.

Jol agrees to leave? Ramos agrees to join?

Posted by Stevio in Tottenham H. on October 25th, 2007

Martin JolAt the time of writing it’s half-time with Spurs and Getafe drawing one all. Bizarrely, The Time are reporting that manager Martin Jol agreed severance pay to leave.

They also report that Sevilla manager Juande Ramos has agreed to be Jol’s successor. They also say that former Spurs midfielder Gus Poyet has been approached to join as assistant manager.

I guess we’ll find out soon if there’s any truth to it.

Tottenham Hotspur v Getafe

Posted by Stevio in Tottenham H. on October 25th, 2007

Tonight, Getafe come to White Hart Lane in the UEFA Cup. I can’t say I know much about them except they’re managed by former Denmark and Real Madrid midfielder Michael Laudrup.

Of course, Martin Jol is still manager, and even though I would prefer him to have been axed already, I hope everyone focuses on the team rather than Jol, as regardless of who is manager, a win is the most important thing.

Unfortunately Gareth Bale is out injured with a bruised foot and will be missing for the next week or so. Young-Pyo Lee is reportedly doubtful, which would mean mayhem at left-back. Radek Cerny is likely to continue in goal for the injured Paul Robinson. Ledley King, Ricardo Rocha and Benoit Assou-Ekotto continue to be out.

The match is live on ITV4 (in the UK) and kicks off at 7:45pm. The show starts at 7pm.
