Blackburn v Spurs preview

Robbie KeaneI’m really not sure what to expect on Sunday at Blackburn Rovers. With Pascal Chimbonda and Jermaine Jenas out and Aaron Lennon looking out too, it’ll be interesting to see who manager Martin Jol selects.

I’d go with the following team: GK. Robinson, DF. Young-Pyo, Dawson, King, Assou-Ekotto, MF. Ghaly, Huddlestone, Zokora, Davids, ST. Keane, Berbatov. That should be a well balanced team which should have enough to at least get a draw at Ewood Park.

They’re without key defender Lucas Neill and Zurab Khizanishvili. Morten Gamst Pedersen is doubtful for them too, so perhaps things will even out in terms of injuries.

Two players to watch are David Bentley and Benni McCarthy - both coincidentally in my fantasy team. The latter has been in hot form and is a very good striker, so Dawson and King will have to keep their eye on him all afternoon.

They’ve also got Shabani Nonda, who was a fine player a couple of years ago. I’ve not seen him play for ages, so will be interesting to see what he can do against our defence.

After the deadful result last week we really need to get something out of this game. I really hope we can bounce back, Robbie Keane is in form after his mid-week hat-trick, so I’m really hoping he can put on a show and get us a vital win!

McClaren selects Spurs four for England

Steve McClarenEngland manager Steve McClaren has selected Spurs quartet Paul Robinson, Ledley King, Jermaine Jenas and Jermain Defoe for the squad to face Macedonia and Croatia in Euro 2008 qualifiers.

The main talking point is the continued exclusion of David Beckham. I’d include him, but only as a reserve. As I think the team is more settled without him.

Good to see Scott Parker included. He’s having a fine season with Newcastle. He’s actually in my fantasy team and has been earning me quite a few points and in turn increasing in value! :)

Goalkeepers: Robinson (Tottenham), Foster (Man Utd), Kirkland (Liverpool);

Defenders: G Neville (Man Utd), P Neville (Everton), Brown (Man Utd), Terry (Chelsea), Ferdinand (Man Utd), Carragher (Liverpool), King (Tottenham), A Cole (Chelsea), Bridge (Chelsea);

Midfielders: Lampard (Chelsea), Gerrard (Liverpool), Jenas (Tottenham), Carrick (Man Utd), Richardson (Man Utd), Downing (Middlesbrough), Wright-Phillips (Chelsea), Parker (Newcastle);

Strikers: Rooney (Man Utd), Crouch (Liverpool), Johnson (Everton), Defoe (Tottenham)

Oh Danny boy

Danny MurphyIt’s good to see Danny Murphy trying to get himself into the first-team at Spurs. He signed and seemed to disappear off the face of the planet.

Anyone involved with fantasy football will know how good this guy was at creating goals at Charlton, so I really hope he can do the same consistently for Spurs.

The 29-year-old told The Sun newspaper: “It’s always nice to play reasonably well because I am trying to establish myself in the team.

“But I’d rather have an average performance and get a result because at the moment we need one.”
