El Tel tipping Spurs to finish 5th

Posted by Stevio in Tottenham Hotspur on August 11th, 2007

Terry VenablesUnlike Tim Sherwood, I do have faith in what Terry Venables says, and in today’s Sun newspaper he’s tipping us for 5th position in the Premiership.

He said: “I’ve been very impressed by Tottenham and the way they have gone about their business. The £40million has been spent wisely and Darren Bent reminds me of Gary Lineker in his prime. I’d love the problem of picking between their four strikers. Gareth Bale and Younes Kaboul are top defenders as well.”

I think 5th would be a respectable place to finish, however, we need to improve on previous seasons. I suppose if we finished fifth and had silverware to show for it, then I wouldn’t grumble, however, with the amount of money spent this summer, we’ve got to progress.

Spurs linked with Taylor

Posted by Stevio in Tottenham Hotspur on August 10th, 2007

One player we’ve been linked with for years and years is Portsmouth’s left-back/midfielder Matthew Taylor.

Today, The Sun are reporting that we’re keen on buying him for £4m. The problem is Portsmouth want double that!

I think he’s a good player with a very sweet left foot and would bring balance down the left. He also scored some great goals last season, as seen below.

Kaboul admission

Posted by Stevio in Tottenham Hotspur on August 10th, 2007

Younes KaboulOne of our recent signings, Younes Kaboul, has revealed that when he was a kid he wanted to play for Arsenal.

He said: “I was 16 when I said I dreamed of playing for them.

“Like all young French players, I was dreaming of playing for a big club like Arsenal, Real or Barcelona.

“But I joined because Spurs have become one of the big clubs over the last three years. And in three years’ time, it could be the best possible.”

Considering he has lost teeth for the Spurs cause, I think we should forgive him!

Mido to go?

Posted by Stevio in Tottenham Hotspur on August 10th, 2007

MidoIt looks like Mido could finally be leaving White Hart Lane with both Birmingham City and Middlesbrough chasing the Egyptian.

Birmingham manager Steve Bruce has already confirmed that he’s back in for the striker after an earlier failed attempt. Now ‘Boro have made their interest official.

‘Boro manager Gareth Southgate said: “Yes we have made our interest in Mido known to Spurs. We’re awaiting developments.”

I thought Mido was amazing whilst on loan from AS Roma, but sadly since he made the move permanent he doesn’t seem fit – physically nor mentality. Plus with the addition of Bent and the form of Keane and Berbatov, he’s unlikely to see first-team action for us again.

I wish him well – when he eventually goes – although I suspect if he moves to another Premiership club, he’ll come back to haunt us.

Tim Sherwood

Posted by Stevio in Tottenham Hotspur on August 9th, 2007

Ex-Spurs midfielder Tim Sherwood needs to be told to shut up. I’ve noticed in an online edition of The Sun newspaper that he’s trying to put pressure on manager Martin Jol to produce, he’s also saying how much we’ll miss Ledley King at the start of the season. Of course, he is stating the obvious, by why are a national newspaper printing this ‘exclusive’ drivel?

We’ve had a good pre-season with no losses, and we’ve made some very good signings, with hopefully still more to come. However, with a ball yet to be kicked, it would really be great if people like Tim Sherwood would keep quiet, as it’s quite clear he’s got nothing interesting to say.

I wouldn’t mind, but I wish they’d interview someone whose opinions we’d be interested in hearing, someone who is Spurs through and through. Not someone who was only at White Hart Lane for four years and didn’t really accomplish anything of note!

Ghaly not fit to wear the shirt

Posted by Stevio in Tottenham Hotspur on August 4th, 2007

It was quite a surprise yesterday to hear that Hossam Ghaly’s move to Birmingham City was off. It was pretty much done apart from the Egyptian obtaining a work permit, however, it seems due to a reported training ground bust-up, the midfielder is back at Tottenham.

According to The Sun newspaper, the 25-year-old didn’t like Birmingham’s endurance running, saying: “We don’t do running at Tottenham,” which didn’t particularly please City’s manager Steve Bruce, who reportedly replied: “You mean Tottenham reserves?”

So they’ve cancelled the deal and he could be back in a Spurs shirt this coming season.

I don’t think he’s a bad player, but his actions in May will never be forgotten, so fingers crossed he’ll find another club – one that doesn’t do endurance running!

Friendly: Leyton Orient 2-4 Tottenham Hotspur

Posted by Stevio in Tottenham Hotspur on August 2nd, 2007

A nice 4-2 friendly win for Spurs at Leyton Orient last night. I can’t say I’m happy with us conceding two goals though, we need to tighten up the defence if we’re going to achieve anything this season.

Watch out for a great goal from Jermain Defoe!
