Robinson set for Aston Villa talks?

Posted by Stevio in Rumours on June 25th, 2008

The Evening Standard are reporting that Paul Robinson is to hold talks with Aston Villa this week.

The ‘keeper, who lost his place in the first team to Radek Cerny in March, could move for a fee of £5m.

Who will be Robinson’s replacement? Cerny has gone to QPR leaving just Ben Alnwick as the only first-team goalkeeper.

The last week or so Heurelho Gomes of PSV has been linked with a move to Spurs numerous times.

We’ve also been linked with Allan McGregor (Rangers), Emiliano Viviano (Brescia), Gregory Coupet (Lyon) and Joe Hart (Manchester City).

Bilic: ‘Luka played phenomenally’

Posted by Stevio in Miscellaneous on June 21st, 2008

Croatian national manager Slaven Bilic has praised midfielder Luka Modric for his performances during Euro 2008.

This comes after Luka missed the opening penalty in a shootout with Turkey that his team eventually lost 3-1 on.

The match had gone to penalties after ending 1-1 after extra time.

Bilic said: “Luka played phenomenally and he certainly didn’t deserve to miss that penalty. Throughout this tournament he was the maestro.

“As for Turkey this is the third match they’ve won in this extreme fashion. If they continued to be lucky and they don’t give up they might reach the final.

“It’s obvious they don’t just have quality but something else too and that’s something you need in football.

“But I want to congratulate both teams for a great game of football.

“This match shows why it’s the most dramatic and most popular game in the world.

“My players put in a heroic performance and I can have no complaints about any of them.”

Modric impresses in Croatia win

Posted by Stevio in Tottenham Hotspur on June 12th, 2008

I’m very much liking of what I’m seeing of Luka Modric. In Croatia’s 2-1 win over Germany, the midfielder shone with his ability on the ball and passing.

Due to Croatia playing five in midfield, Modric had chances to forward and got in the box a few times, even in the latter stages of the game, showing what good stamina he’s got.

With Germany being a tall physical side, I did wonder how Modric would cope, however he got stuck in and showed he’s not such a lightweight despite his small stature.

Modric did get tackles in too, and was even booked for a two footed challenge – unfairly in my opinion.

Costing Spurs nearly £17m, I think we paid way too much, however we’ve lacked a player since Michael Carrick who can get on the ball and control midfield. In Modric, I think he can do that job brilliantly.
