Manchester United struggling to do Berbatov deal?

Posted by Stevio in Transfers on August 23rd, 2008

Dimitar Berbatov could yet remain at Spurs, this comes after Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson said that he’s concerned that he may not sign a striker before the transfer window closes.

The Scot said: “I am less optimistic than I was.

“We have 11 days left before the transfer deadline and we are working at something, you never know in football.”

More injury pain for Tainio

Posted by Stevio in Tottenham Hotspur on August 21st, 2008

It appears that the luck of former Spurs midfielder Teemu Tainio hasn’t changed – he’s doubtful for Sunderland’s match against us at White Hart Lane on Saturday.

Sunderland manager Roy Keane told his club’s official website: “Teemu went on international duty but was sent back, he has a muscle strain and he’ll be a doubt for Saturday.”

No Arshavin for Spurs

Posted by Stevio in Transfers on August 21st, 2008

Andrei Arshavin’s club say that the Russian international will not be joining Spurs.

A Zenit statement said: “Spurs had until August 18 to send their proposals. These have not been received.

“Given the deadline has expired and the uncertainty of the situation does not allow the club to find a replacement for Andrei Arshavin, Zenit considers the possibility of transferring the player to Tottenham closed.”

Pavlyuchenko: England move would be big problem

Posted by Stevio in Transfers on August 21st, 2008

The Russian Teddy Sheringham, Roman Pavlyuchenko, has revealed that moving from Spartak Moscow to Spurs could be problematic.

Pavlyuchenko said: “The transfer to England which everyone is talking about would be a big problem for my family as we have a young child.

“We need to discuss it properly but I can’t say anything concrete since I don’t really know myself what’s going on.

“Everything is still being discussed. Maybe Spartak have already made a decision but I haven’t decided one way or the other.”

On moving to England without countryman Andrei Arshavin, he said: “I don’t know because I have never been at a foreign club. You need to try something first in order to know.

“On the one hand, it’s easier as a pair. But on the other, being alone forces you to get used to new conditions quicker – both language and life.

“Everything will depend on what kind of offer will be made to the club and to me. My move to a top club would definitely reflect well on the image of Spartak.

“I will see what the offer is first and then bring the whole process to a conclusion.”

Waddle: No top four finish for Spurs

Posted by Stevio in Tottenham Hotspur on August 20th, 2008

Former Spurs winger Chris Waddle says his former club won’t finish in the top four this season.

Waddle, now 47, told The Sun: “I just don’t think they are ready yet. Just because they have spent a lot of money doesn’t mean they are going to break into the top four.

“I still think they need a few more players in key areas.

“Tottenham will be Tottenham. They will score goals and they will have some wonderful games but they’ll also have some stupid games and concede loads.

“Unfortunately that’s the beast that is Tottenham.

“They may make the top four next season but this year they won’t do any better than fifth or sixth.”

Berbatov worried over Manchester United move?

Posted by Stevio in Transfers on August 19th, 2008

According to The Times, Dimitar Berbatov is worried Manchester United will move for Ajax striker Klaas-Jan Huntelaar instead of himself.

This comes after United manager Sir Alex Ferguson contradicted himself by now saying he’s looking to sign another striker.

Yesterday he said he was happy to continue with his current strike force.

The Scot told The Sun: “We are working on bringing in another top striker.

“Having added strength up front is a situation I would really enjoy.

“Ideally, I like to operate with four experienced strikers, as we did when we won the Treble when we had Andy Cole, Dwight Yorke, Teddy Sheringham and Ole Solskjaer.”

Meanwhile, Berbatov’s agent Emil Dantchev has said: “We’re entering a crucial period of negotiations,” so perhaps it’s crunch time for the Bulgarian?

Arshavin move could still go ahead?

Posted by Stevio in Transfers on August 19th, 2008

The on-off move of Andrei Arshavin to Spurs (or perhaps off-off move) could yet go ahead according to the midfielder’s agent.

Agent Dennis Lachter told Sky Sports News: “Zenit asked for €25million [£19.69m] for the transfer of Arshavin, this is the last price of the team.

“Four days ago in a private meeting with one of the Tottenham representatives, it was take it or leave it, that is the last price.

“I have got to talk with president of Zenit, Alexander Dukov, if he wants to buy somebody he needs to sell somebody, so he is pushing for Zenit himself to sell Andrei as he understands the contribution of the player.

“We still have a lot of time and from my experience a lot of deals are finalised close to the end of the window, so we will see.”

Meanwhile, Spurs are linked again with Spartak Moscow striker Roman Pavlyuchenko, who is said to be a target of higher priority than Arshavin.

BBC Sport understands…

Posted by Stevio in England, Rumours on August 18th, 2008

According to BBC Sport, they ‘understand’ that Spurs have decided to end their interest in Russian international Andrei Arshavin.

The midfielder’s club, Zenit St Petersburg, had said they’d lowered their asking price, however, they soon denied this.

The BBC also say Spurs are not interested in signing Newcastle United striker Michael Owen.

Meanwhile, Jermaine Jenas has been called up by England. He replaces the injured Michael Carrick.

Berbatov wants to follow dream

Posted by Stevio in Transfers on August 18th, 2008

Dimitar Berbatov has revealed that he wants to follow his dream, which presumably means him joining Manchester United rather than Barnet.

Berbatov told The Sun: “I’m now in Tottenham but no one can disagree with me wanting to follow my dream.”

On being a substitute on Saturday, he said: “I’m not angry about the decision of Juande Ramos to name me as a substitute. I’m not crying.

“I only show my emotions to my close friends and family.

“But if I was laughing when I was on the bench, people would say I was an idiot.

“I noticed that Eric Cantona never smiled but I don’t know if anyone ever asked him why he didn’t look happier.”

The Bulgarian’s agent Emil Dantchev added: “We have two weeks until the end of the transfer window. I think this will be the most important week.”

Curiously, United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has said he’s happy with his strike force of Carlos Tevez and Wayne Rooney.

The Scot said following their 1-1 home draw with Newcastle: “Tevez will be back next week and Wayne Rooney will be much sharper.

“That will be our strike-force. I am happy to continue that way.”

It’s quite clear without Ronaldo, United lack that flair player to unlock defences. Therefore I hope Spurs continue their stance until United agree to pay a price that Daniel Levy is happy with.
