Spurs Chat
Introduction to #Spurs
As fans of Tottenham Hotspur are spread all around the world in far off distant places, some find it difficult to meet fellow Spurs fans to discuss the latest happenings at the Lane, but now thanks to IRC (Internet Relay Chat), they can now converse all that is Spurs from the comfort of their own home.
A channel on the Undernet server called #Spurs has existed for over a decade. Most of the time there’s someone there, but mostly, the channel is at its most busy when our matches are being played.
How to connect to the #Spurs Channel on Undernet
You can join other Spurs fans on IRC very easily, simply follow the below steps.
Download the popular IRC software – its called mIRC. It can be downloaded without charge from mIRC.com.
Alternative software is available from the sites like Download.com.
Next steps are to simply install the software (self explanatory).
The channel ‘#Spurs’ resides on Undernet, to connect to the channel you have to select an Undernet server, with mIRC this is pretty much straight forward, just click on the ‘options’ button on mIRC and select the nearest Undernet server to your location and click ‘connect’.
All being well you should be connected to an Undernet server. Now type ‘/join #spurs’ and you should have finally made it and joined #Spurs! Enjoy!
#Spurs Rules
Note from the Webmaster of this site – these rules are a few guidelines that should allow the channel to be a friendly and nice place. They should be the result of a debate between the channel users. If you feel that something is missing in these rules, or if you disagree with them, then you’re invited to tell us why, and what you think they should be. This is your channel. These rules apply to every single user, operator and visitor.
1. Try to be as friendly as possible with other users, we’re supposed to share the same interest in a football team. We can disagree but there’s no room for wars in the channel. Repeated insults or attacks towards a user will be considered a flood, and therefore you’ll be kicked.
2. Non-Spurs supporters are welcome in the channel as long as they respect us and our team. Once again, respect means that there can be a debate, but no insults.
3. Flooding and advertising is forbidden in the channel window, as well as on-join messages. If you feel you have found an interesting site, then leave a message to an op, then wait for his / her approval to leave the URL in the channel window. Flooding is the act of repeating several times the same message in the window.
4. Don’t ask to be a channel operator. The channel admins feel that there are enough ops for the channel to work properly. If you want to become an op then you have to prove your commitment to the channel. That means for instance bringing fresh news to the channel users, helping with the homepage, in a few words you have to bring us something that we could not find without you. Any op must have a x login/username.
5. If you don’t respect these guidelines then you will most likely be kicked. If you’re kicked, it’s only a warning to tell you that you’ve crossed the barrier. In case you continue to bother the channel users, you’ll be banned.
6. The default language is English. Therefore please speak English only, otherwise you risk being kicked from the channel.
Users information is available at Undernet.org in the userlist section type #spurs (our channel bot is x).
Channel Operators
To come
So you want to be an Operator?
All ops MUST have an X username and be logged in. To register a new username go to cservice.undernet.org/live/newuser.php.
To log in, type in status: “/msg X@channels.undernet.org login nick password” (example /msg X@channels.undernet.org login gascoigne marsbars).
To automatically login at startup go to mirc options > connect > options > perform; check “enable perform on connect” and put “/msg X@channels.undernet.org login nick password” (replace with your nick and password of course) in the “perform commands:” field. (this may vary depending on what mirc version you are using).
To get a x hostmask like whatever@nick.users.undernet.org, put “/mode $me +x” in perform as well. If it’s not working try “//mode $me +x”
If you’re using a different client than mIRC the commands may look slightly different.
Please note that asking for ops, nagging, begging is guaranteed to NEVER get you ops (more likely you will be banned). New ops will be added when the channel admins decide it’s needed. But with an x login and generally good behaviour your chances should be good if you’re patient!
