No Arshavin move to Spurs, again

Posted by Stevio in Transfers on August 30th, 2008

Zenit St. Petersburg manager Dick Advocaat says Andrei Arshavin will not be joining Tottenham Hotspur.

The Dutchman said: “The door’s closed, the deal’s closed.

“Tottenham offered £16m and that’s not enough, so that’s the end of it.”

He added: “They [Spurs] had several weeks of time to buy him and they did not offer £22m like everybody has been writing, but just £16m.

“I think that Arshavin costs more than £16m.”

Considering a proven Premiership player in Robbie Keane was sold for £18m, paying more than £16m for an unproven player at Premiership level is crazy. Spurs should move on if the Russians aren’t willing to negotiate.

No Arshavin for Spurs

Posted by Stevio in Transfers on August 21st, 2008

Andrei Arshavin’s club say that the Russian international will not be joining Spurs.

A Zenit statement said: “Spurs had until August 18 to send their proposals. These have not been received.

“Given the deadline has expired and the uncertainty of the situation does not allow the club to find a replacement for Andrei Arshavin, Zenit considers the possibility of transferring the player to Tottenham closed.”

Arshavin move could still go ahead?

Posted by Stevio in Transfers on August 19th, 2008

The on-off move of Andrei Arshavin to Spurs (or perhaps off-off move) could yet go ahead according to the midfielder’s agent.

Agent Dennis Lachter told Sky Sports News: “Zenit asked for €25million [£19.69m] for the transfer of Arshavin, this is the last price of the team.

“Four days ago in a private meeting with one of the Tottenham representatives, it was take it or leave it, that is the last price.

“I have got to talk with president of Zenit, Alexander Dukov, if he wants to buy somebody he needs to sell somebody, so he is pushing for Zenit himself to sell Andrei as he understands the contribution of the player.

“We still have a lot of time and from my experience a lot of deals are finalised close to the end of the window, so we will see.”

Meanwhile, Spurs are linked again with Spartak Moscow striker Roman Pavlyuchenko, who is said to be a target of higher priority than Arshavin.
