Robinson relieved to be out of Spurs

Posted by Stevio in Tottenham Hotspur on July 30th, 2008

Former Spurs ‘keeper Paul Robinson has admitted that he’s relieved to have left White Hart Lane to join Blackburn Rovers.

Robinson said: “Not long after Ramos came in, he made his thoughts quite clear to everyone.

“It is a relief to be out of there now and nice to be wanted again.

“When you’re having a dip in form, you want the people around you to believe in you and back you.

“I feel I can be England’s No1 again. I’m 28 and have 42 caps already. The best years of my career are ahead of me. There is no reason why I can’t add to that.

“Tottenham is in the past. I’m looking to the future and the challenge ahead of me for club and country.

“Do I have something to prove? Definitely, 100 per cent. It has been a difficult six months.

“I have a bit of hunger back, which maybe I’ve missed the last couple of years.

“I know what I can do and I want to do myself justice. I’ve had a rough ride for six months but I have never doubted my ability.”

He added: “I had four years at Spurs, 3½ very happy. The most disappointing moment was being left out of the semi-final against Arsenal. You want to play in those big games.”

Robinson set for Aston Villa talks?

Posted by Stevio in Rumours on June 25th, 2008

The Evening Standard are reporting that Paul Robinson is to hold talks with Aston Villa this week.

The ‘keeper, who lost his place in the first team to Radek Cerny in March, could move for a fee of £5m.

Who will be Robinson’s replacement? Cerny has gone to QPR leaving just Ben Alnwick as the only first-team goalkeeper.

The last week or so Heurelho Gomes of PSV has been linked with a move to Spurs numerous times.

We’ve also been linked with Allan McGregor (Rangers), Emiliano Viviano (Brescia), Gregory Coupet (Lyon) and Joe Hart (Manchester City).

Sunday transfer rumours

Posted by Stevio in Rumours on June 1st, 2008

A round-up of Sunday’s transfer rumours.

According to the Sunday Times, the fee for midfielder John Bostock will most likely go to tribunal.

The Sunday People say we could offer Aaron Lennon and Hossam Ghaly and £7m cash for Blackburn Rovers winger David Bentley.

Also in the Sunday People, they report if Dimitar Berbatov leaves, we could turn to Real Zaragoza striker Diego Milito.

Same paper say Spurs and also Aston Villa are interested in Sampdoria defender Hugo Campagnaro.

In the Sunday Mirror, Queens Park Rangers could make a move for defender Anthony Gardner.

Again in the same newspaper, there could be a huge clearout with Darren Bent, Kevin-Prince Boateng, Gilberto, Younnes Kaboul, Jamie O’Hara, Paul Robinson and Adel Taarbet leaving.

O’Hara being axed wouldn’t make much sense, as he’s just signed a new deal, also Gilberto was only signed in January.

Today’s Spurs transfer rumours

Posted by Stevio in Rumours on May 27th, 2008

Spurs have been linked with quite a few players today.

First off, The Times say we’re interested in Lazio midfielder Valon Behrami, who would cost around £9.6m.

The Daily Mail are saying we’re most likely to sign Manchester City defender Richard Dunne – beating Aston Villa to his signature. Also in the same newspaper, Barcelona’s Giovani Dos Santos supposedly prefers a move to Spurs. He would cost £7m. They also report that Paul Robinson could be headed to Manchester City.

The Mirror say we’ve scouted striker Tarik Elyounoussi, who plays for Fredrikstad (anyone seen him play? Any good?) The Norwegians reportedly want £4m.

We’ve been linked with Blackburn Rovers midfielder David Bentley after he reportedly rejected a new deal at Ewood Park. Spurs along with Chelsea are supposedly set to bid £15m.

Tottenham defender Ricardo Rocha is eyeing a move back to Benfica.

The Portuguese international told TSF: “Benfica is the club of my heart, always was and always will be.

“It was there that I graduated as a man and as a player.

“I won titles and was able to jump to a major championship in the world.

“I have a lot to thank Benfica for and if one day there’ll be an opportunity to return I would see it as a great opportunity.”

Latest Spurs rumours: Coupet, Robinson, Eto’o & Gomes

Posted by Stevio in Rumours on May 24th, 2008

Lyon ‘keeper Gregory Coupet has admitted that he’ll be leaving the French club this summer.

The 35-year-old said: “Yes, I’m leaving, it had become an open secret.

“My way of saying thank you to the fans will be to win the Cup by being invincible.”

Unfortunately it doesn’t look like he’ll be headed to Spurs as Coupet’s club have said the following: “Lyon categorically deny having received any offer from the English club Tottenham about the transfer of Gregory Coupet,”

If Frenchman doesn’t arrive, then if the Daily Star are correct, then we’ll need a new ‘keeper as they report Paul Robinson is wanted by Aston Villa and Bolton Wanderers.

An odd bit of news includes Gustavo Poyet. He’s supposedly told a Spanish radio station that we’re not interested in Barcelona striker Samuel Eto’o.

The Uruguayan reportedly told Ona FM: “Samuel Eto’o is not a priority for our team. Moreover, we’re not interested in him,”

He added: “We’ll be having a meeting next week to talk about signings, as we’ve already made one interesting one for next season.”

Finally, Spurs have failed in a bid for PSV ‘keeper Heurelho Gomes say The Independent. The Dutch club reportedly want £11.6m for the Brazilian. AC Milan are favourites to land him.

Tottenham Hotspur 4-4 Chelsea

Posted by Stevio in Tottenham Hotspur, Videos on March 20th, 2008

Something that is guaranteed at White Hart Lane is goals, and goals there were last night.

Ashley Cole’s challenge on Alan Hutton was absolutely appalling, he could have broken the Scot’s leg! I still find it hard to believe he only got a yellow card!

Some of defending was again suspect, especially for Chelsea’s first goal. Their second was definitely offside!

I think Paul Robinson could have done better with their third, but I guess he had to spread himself to block the shot.

Tom Huddlestone’s equaliser to make it 3-3 was sweetly struck, but the goal to make it 4-4 by Robbie Keane was just sublime. As can be heard on the video, “Pick that one out!”

It’s a pity Dimitar Berbatov didn’t make it 5-4 on the night to give us the win, but all in all, it was a great game.

Arsenal 2-1 Tottenham Hotspur

Posted by Stevio in Tottenham Hotspur on December 24th, 2007

So, we lost yet again to Arsenal. At least we put in a good performance and deserved something from the game. If only Robbie Keane had hit the back of the net instead of the crossbar or having his penalty saved.

I thought Jamie O’Hara had a brilliant first start in a Spurs shirt. Of course he was playing his former club. He looked very much at home in the centre of midfield. Also Paul Robinson put in yet another solid display in goal.

Dimitar Berbatov scored a cracker of a goal. Keane had backheeled the ball into the Bulgarian’s path, who blasted it home near post.

It’s just a shame we conceeded two weak goals. The first goal by Arsenal could have been avoided if players had tracked back, and the second, well, Tom Huddlestone, where were you? Also if you look at the photo, isn’t it strange how high Nicklas Bendtner is up in the air? What’s he on!? I demand a drugs test! :)

Support Paul Robinson!

Posted by Stevio in England, Tottenham Hotspur on October 8th, 2007

Paul RobinsonThere’s a lot of talk regarding Paul Robinson’s peformances asking whether he should be dropped by Martin Jol. My take on it is that he’s been unlucky.

Admittedly, he did make a blunder against Aston Villa when he dropped the ball from a cross, but I think otherwise people are being harsh on him.

Even yesterday people are blaming him for the first goal conceded at Liverpool. First of all the free-kick came through the wall, which it shouldn’t do. Secondly, the shot was deflected off Jermaine Jenas. I think usually a ‘keeper will do their best to block the shot, which he did, it was just unfortunate that Liverpool striker Andriy Voronin got to the ball before our defenders did and scored.

I think Spurs manager Martin Jol has two options, he can either keep Robsinon in the team or drop him. I don’t think it’ll do the ‘keeper any good dropping him, I think Robinson just needs to see this spell out and get through it. He’s a not bad ‘keeper, and it’s just a matter of time before all this negativity goes away.

There’s even talk that Robinson will be dropped by England and replaced by David James. This is a ‘keeper who already has a nickname of ‘Calamity James’!

I hope people keep faith with Robbo and support him, as all ‘keepers make mistakes at times in there career.
