Portsmouth rival Spurs for Dunne?

Posted by Stevio in Rumours on June 1st, 2008

If reports are to be believed and Spurs are interested in signing Manchester City defender Richard Dunne, then they now have competition from Portsmouth to sign the Irishman.

Harry Redknapp told BBC Radio Five Live: “I like Dunne. He’s a top player and I think there’s a couple of clubs in for him at the moment. But I think we’ve got as good a chance as anyone now.”

He added: “We’ve got in the Uefa Cup for next year and we’ve got some good players so hopefully we can start to compete with the Tottenhams and the Villas and teams like that,”

It seems a strange move by Redknapp as they have Sylvain Distin and Sol Campbell already at the heart of their defence, so why move for Dunne?

The only thing I can think of is that he wants to improve his squad, but he’s already got Hermann Hreidarsson, Linvoy Primus and of course Noe Pamarot who can cover at centre-half. So who knows what’s going on.

Spurs closing in on Dos Santos and Dunne?

More of the same this morning with The Sun reporting that both Giovani Dos Santos and Richard Dunne are on their way to Spurs.

According to the report, we’ve agreed a £12m fee with Barcelona to sign Dos Santos.

The deal to sign Dunne is apparently very close, with the defender supposedly holding ‘advanced talks’ with Spurs and just needs to under-go a medical.

Sevilla deny agreeing Capel fee, Dunne on way?

The Daily Mail report that we’ve agreed to pay the £11.5m get-out clause of Sevilla winger Diego Capel, however this looks inaccurate as Sevilla president Jose Maria del Nido denies that this is the case.

He told ABC Sevilla: “After talks with his representatives, I do not have any information about Tottenham being prepared to pay his clause, which is 15.6million euros [£12.36m].

“What I would ask is whether a foreign club could exercise the buy-out clause in Spain?”

The same paper are again reporting that we’ve won the race to sign Manchester City defender Richard Dunne.

Robbie Keane’s international team-mate has one-year remaining on his deal at City, and would cost just £5m.

At 28, he’s entering his prime, and would definitely be a bargain buy.
