Spurs chairman reports Liverpool and Manchester United

Posted by Stevio in Miscellaneous, Tottenham Hotspur on July 19th, 2008

Spurs chairman Daniel Levy must be congratulated for reporting Liverpool manager Rafael Benitez and Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson for their public disclosure of interest in our strikers Robbie Keane and Dimitar Berbatov.

It’s disappointing to see two well respected managers steep to such lows to lure two of our finest players.

Unfortunately the statement below gives the impression that both players will not be Spurs players for much longer.

I’ve been expecting Berbatov to leave, however Keane’s possible departure, especially to Liverpool, is something of a surprise.

I’m of the belief that no player is bigger than the club, so if the two players want to go, then fair enough, I just hope the club receive reasonable transfer fees.

The full statement from Daniel Levy reads as follows: “Today’s public comments by Manchester United’s manager, announcing that he has made an offer for Dimitar and is confident that the deal will go through with time working in their favour, is a blatant example of sheer arrogance and interference with one of our players. It is also probably one of the worst offences by any manager in the Premier League to date and is unbelievably hypocritical given his recent comments in respect of Cristiano Ronaldo and Real Madrid.

“This comes after a series of events, dating back to last summer, which have shown Manchester United to be in breach of Premier League (PL) rules. As a result, we have today made an official complaint to the PL about the conduct of Manchester United. Benitez made similar comments in respect of Robbie recently and we made an official complaint to the PL about the conduct of Liverpool earlier this week.

“The behaviour of both clubs has been disgraceful. We told both clubs very early on that we had no interest in selling Robbie or Dimitar, respectively, and that they should refrain from pursuing the player. Both clubs arrogantly chose to ignore this request and we now have evidence that both clubs have systematically been working to prise the players away from us, outside of PL rules of conduct.

“Our subsequent position has been severely compromised by both clubs making their intentions widely known and indeed making contact with the players and their agents, without the Club’s permission.

“I have absolutely no wish to sell either player and to date we have not accepted any offer for either. However, when a player’s head is turned and their commitment is absent, particularly when they occupy key positions such as that of striker, they become a negative influence in a team dressing room in which they were once a positive addition and influence. This is the situation we now have on our hands, with both Dimitar and Robbie having made it clear that they wish to leave for Manchester Utd and Liverpool respectively.

“Irrespective of the outcome and futures of Robbie and Dimitar, we are continuing to seek to bring in quality, talented players for the future, who want to play in a Spurs shirt.”

Liverpool manager admits to Keane interest

Posted by Stevio in Rumours on July 10th, 2008

Liverpool manager Rafael Benitez has confirmed his interest in Spurs striker Robbie Keane after ruling out a move for Spanish international David Villa.

Benitez told his club’s official website: “I said the other day that Villa is one of the names we had on our list, but I can say at this moment that it is not an option for us.

“We know Villa is a very good player, we know the price and we know the players we have, so when you consider everything we decided he was one of the names, but at this moment, not our target.

“Keane is one of the other names and, okay, we are working on other names. We were in contact and we will see now.”

Moreno no-go, Keane to stay

Posted by Stevio in Rumours, Tottenham Hotspur on May 29th, 2008

The agent of Marcelo Moreno has confirmed that the Cruzeiro striker will not be joining Spurs – instead the Bolivian is headed to Shakhtar Donetsk.

His agent told The Sun: “He’ll have a good life in Ukraine.”

One player happy with life at Spurs is Robbie Keane.

The Irish international said: “I’m very content with my life and my time at Spurs. I want to play there as long as I’m happy and as long as I’m wanted.

“Over the last three or four years there has always been speculation that I’m going here, there and everywhere.

“I’m having a summer off without people ringing saying, ‘Are you going here, are you going there?’

“So I’m looking forward to a nice break and then going back to Spurs next season.”

Tottenham Hotspur 4-4 Chelsea

Posted by Stevio in Tottenham Hotspur, Videos on March 20th, 2008

Something that is guaranteed at White Hart Lane is goals, and goals there were last night.

Ashley Cole’s challenge on Alan Hutton was absolutely appalling, he could have broken the Scot’s leg! I still find it hard to believe he only got a yellow card!

Some of defending was again suspect, especially for Chelsea’s first goal. Their second was definitely offside!

I think Paul Robinson could have done better with their third, but I guess he had to spread himself to block the shot.

Tom Huddlestone’s equaliser to make it 3-3 was sweetly struck, but the goal to make it 4-4 by Robbie Keane was just sublime. As can be heard on the video, “Pick that one out!”

It’s a pity Dimitar Berbatov didn’t make it 5-4 on the night to give us the win, but all in all, it was a great game.

Sunday’s transfer rumours

Posted by Stevio in Rumours, Tottenham Hotspur on October 30th, 2006

David BeckhamAn increase in transfer speculation saw us interestingly linked with David Beckham.

Martin Jol said yesterday: “I’ll sit down and have a think about it tonight. We are well covered on the flanks already. It’s a difficult one. We’ve got Wayne Routledge, although he’s on loan, plus Hossam Ghaly and Aaron Lennon.”

I’m not sure what to think if we were interested in the Real Madrid midfielder. He’d cost a heck of a lot in terms of wages, and with that in mind, would he be able to justify such high wages?

I think if he joined he’d be very influential at the club with all his experience, something of a role that Edgar Davids has. Question is where would he play? I could possibly see him replacing Jermaine Jenas in a central miidfield role. But is he good enough there? On the right wing, I don’t think he contributes enough there, and with Aaron Lennon, there’s no role for him there. So it would be a curious move if it did in fact happen.

Other rumours are that Robbie Keane is being linked with a £5m move to Aston Villa and we’re supposedly considering making a move for ex-Arsenal defender Matthew Upson, who is with Birmingham City.
